Those of you playing Dwarf Fortress take a moment to upgrade living quarters, food and dining situations, the works. These people will appreciate it.

OTOH there’s also a universe for every possible DF world that hasn’t been generated - and on top of that, one for every different decision everyone could have made in every fort they’ve ever played.

So I shouldn’t worry too much - those poor dorfs will be starving to death anyway, in one universe or another…

Got trolled by my subconscious the other day…

Don’t know who told you it’s expensive, but compared to a traditional uni it’s much cheaper. Also (though it might be changing) you can get student grants, and if your income is below a certain point you essentially get the courses free.

Have a look on their website for ‘financial support’, or give your regional centre a ring. I’ve found applying for the support to be kind of convoluted, but it seems to have got better in recent years.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS finally upgraded from Firefox 3.6 - to Firefox 9… missed a few there

At least trying to auto-scroll pages with lots of scripts (like Facebook) doesn’t lock up my entire computer any more. Shame that Firefox crashes every time I try to update my Facebook status though.

Not 100% sure if you’ll want this info, but I think it falls into the “glad to know because it’s just obtuse” category :)

First, create a 1x1 garbage dump ‘zone’ (this is different from a refuse stockpile) on a square that’s out of the way but fairly central. Then ‘designate’ the stone as dumped. I forget the key sequences to actually do this but if you are having trouble with the (inconsistent) interface let me know and I’ll find out.

Then your dwarves will move it all to the dump - surprisingly it will all fit onto the one square. Afterwards, you need to ‘claim’ it again using ‘designations’ so your dwarves will still use it for building things.

Be careful you don’t accidentally dump any other objects lying around though.
